Maharashtra’s Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Friday gets into action by ordering to file First Information Report (FIR) against Snapdeal CEO, Kunal Bahl and directors of the company for allegedly selling prescription drugs online. Harshadeep Kamble, FDA Commissioner said “Only a licensed retailer can sell prescription drugs, and that can be sold only with the prescription of a doctor as self-medication is very dangerous.”
In regards to this case the company was raided by FDA last month and followed by the raid the FDA received information that the website snapdeal.com is selling prescription drugs online. The FDA issued a notice to Snapdeal to delist all the prescription drugs which was for sale in their portal snapdeal.com. Snapdeal stated that “we are assisting the FDA and have delisted the products and informed our sellers too. We are providing all information to the FDA and will continue to do so”. Now the FDA is keeping an eye if other e-retailers have sold any drugs.
