The government of India is taking all steps to improve the medical device sector of the country. The Gujarat Food & Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) gets the allocation of 15 Cr to set up first government biocompatibility and medical device testing lab in India. Commissioner of Gujarat FDCA, Dr Koshia said: “The testing lab will address the issue of Indian manufactures who were forced to test their products in other countries to market in India.
As the set up of this lab encourages local manufacturing, we may expect faster approval process due to PM Modi’s Make in India campaign. We expect the lab to be set up by the end of 2015.” The visit of the Prime Minister to the US, European countries signals the intend of India to encourage foreign manufacturers to enter the Indian market; specifically for the medical device industry – CDSCO instructors to get trained, registration of medical devices becoming more transparent and setting up additional review centers across the country.
