The import of Medical Devices for Personal Use can be imported in small quantities under the following conditions –
- The Medical Device forms a part of a personal baggage of the passenger and is intended for the exclusive use of such a passenger
- The Medical Device will be declared as a Personal Baggage to the Customs
- The passenger can import quantities only as specified by a Registered Medical Practitioner
- The Medical Device has to be prescribed by a Registered Medical Practitioner
- The Medical Device imported has to be accompanied by an Invoice/Statement which contains the name and quantity of the Medical Device being imported
The product can be imported by submitting an application in Form MD-20 (Appendix 1). This application is accompanied by documents confirming that the device is for personal use along with a prescription from a Registered Medical Practitioner. Upon receipt of the application under Sub-Rule (2) with the CDSCO, MD-21 (Appendix 2) is granted, or the application is rejected for which the reasons are recorded in writing within 7 days from the date of application as per the CDSCO Guidelines.
