The CDSCO has Installed computer systems in its office and laboratory to control high risk of viruses over the internet. These viruses in the computer lead to crash/delete of the official data stored in the computer system. It may also download unnecessary files on computer systems causing serious damage to the data of the computers installed in the CDSCO. The Ransomware virus causes an attack to the systems through which sensitive data gets encrypted. The CDSCO has sought the problem with the consultation of CERT-IN under the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology to tackle these viruses. The CERT-IN under the Ministry of Electronics and information technology has apprised the CDSCO about the common causes of Data breach/ Data leak and also to safeguard the individuals against these practices. The Ministry to Electronics and information technology has set the draft rules as follows :-
Best Practices for Individuals Users to Safeguard Against Data Breach:
- Use a strong and unique Password for all the accounts, use a password manager software to keep data safe
- Maintain different passwords for all the online accounts.
- Enable two-factor authentication wherever it’s available.
- Constantly update the software on computers, smartphones and other devices.
- Install a reputed anti-virus on the system
- Be very careful while clicking received links in unsolicited SMS messages, emails or in other platforms.
- Do not open the Email attachment from unknown users.
- Limit sharing personal information on online forums.
- While making a payment ensure that merchants website as well as the gateway of payment is running on HTTPS and hold a valid certificate.
- Never share personal information and OTPs etc over phones or emails/sms.
