Competitive Practices in Pharma Sector – A Study

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is planning to execute a study on pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors in the NCR region due to the concerns over the speculations of unfair ways of competition. The study would cover pharma companies, its associations, public and private hospitals, insurance companies, doctors and their associations. The CCI will conduct the study for understanding whether there are anti-competitive practices in the pharma sector. According to the government, as India is witnessing a considerable change to the healthcare industry in India , these measures would add more value to the cause.

In the recent years, the fair trade regulator has come across various aspects were norms of the competition is violated in the pharmaceutical sector. The notice was issued last Thursday inviting EOI from organizations, institutions and firms for conducting the study. Many chemists and drugs associations have been given penalties for the violation of competition norms. READ ALSO: Drugs sold without CDSCO Approval.
