Lok Shabha informed, “A structured regulatory regime for AYUSH drugs is considered to be set up”. Shripad Naik, the minister of AYUSH said in written to parliament of India, “Government mulls a structured regulatory regime for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy) drugs. The proposal is to have a vertical structure for AYUSH in the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). The time frame has not specified but have taken the steps to initiate the proposal”. Currently, the state governments enforce the exclusive provisions for the AYUSH drugs in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. READ ALSO: Step by Step process to register your medical devices in India. Under the provisions of the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970, and the Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973 the government has established the Central Council of Indian Medicine and Central Council of Homoeopathy for regulating the practice of AYUSH medicine” Naik added. In India there were 281 Ayurveda, 191 Homoeopathy, 44 Unani, 18 Naturopathy and 09 Siddha medicine colleges functions and there is no Central Act and Regulatory Central Council for Yoga and Naturopathy. The government of India has received a total of 92 proposals in 2015 for opening new Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy medical colleges (government as well as private) in different parts of the country.
