For medical and dental instruments UP is becoming an emerging manufacturing center. On the release of a study titled “Indian Medical Devices Industry: The way ahead” D.S. Rawat, national secretary general of Assocham said “By 2020, UP could emerge as manufacturing hub if tax concessions are made available for the medical device industry in the state. Currently 33 factories operates in UP which 10 % of the overall factories in the country and ranks second. Gujarat ranks first with 18% share. The imports of medical products in India is also expected to grow (How to register your medical devices in India) as a result of surging middle class, aging population, increase in medical tourism, investment in private sector and governments commitment to drive healthcare services to rural areas, the study stated.
