Harjinder Singh Lallie, principal teacher in Cyber Security at the University of Warwick said, “We don’t give the same significance that we give to money, to something that saves our lives”. Healthcare institutions comes in a second place after financial institutions as a target for the hackers around the world. The financial institutions are being defended with high-end cyber security systems whereas healthcare institutions on the other hand are very open and on high risk. He insisted Cyber Security in Healthcare and Devices while speaking at Sankara Nethralaya.
If a hacker has knowledge a a medical device’s Internet protocol, they could communicate directly with the system resulting in blackmail, theft of information and more. For example, in the hospitals several instruments like patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, pace makers etc are at risk.
